Did you join in Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday party in Chester?

A parade and party brought celebrations to the city centre on Sunday (June 12). Chester’s Roman soldiers opened a ceremonial Eastgate as a giant idol of Her Majesty came to visit and greet the crowds.

Theatre in the Quarter’s Matt Baker led the festivities, as the parade toured up to the town hall and a raft of talented choirs took to the stage to add music to the picnic in the square. For a finale, Matt took the procession back down to Eastgate Street for a sing-a-long involving 150 schoolchildren from across the borough.

Mayor of Chester Angela Claydon said: “What’s lovely about this event is it is bringing all people together. I would just like to thank everybody who has helped to organise this; including CH1ChesterBID, Theatre in the Quarter and the University of Chester.

“Welcome everybody. I hope you have all brought your brollies. Happy birthday Your Majesty.”
